Management Respond To Burton Win

Management Respond To Burton Win

Manager Wayne Burnett has said that three points against Burton was the least the squad deserved following their performance yesterday.

A Zavon Hines penalty and a goal from Luke Howell gave us a comfortable two nil victory on the day, and speaking to London24 following the game, the manager said it was a very deserved victory and was the perfect response to our disappointing loss to Hartlepool last time out.

'I thought we deserved to win, it was a good performance and a decent result. We start very well, scored, and then took a bit of a back seat. From 35 minutes on we managed to take control again and it was a bit scrappy at points but I thought the second half was a lot better.'

With a bit of controversy over the penalty award, and Hines later being booked, Burnett said the fourth official had indicated it was a case of one more and he'd likely be off, so the gaffer was mindful of leaving him on and took the decision to take him off with six or so minutes to go, but he admits had we got the third goal in the game, he'd have come off quicker.

First team coach Darren Currie also spoke briefly about the game saying it was a good performance again from the lads, but they had played well in our three losses (Hartlepool, Bristol City and Peterborough) anyway, but thankfully this time the result went for us and obviously having pace up front, that's how we like to play so we can exploit that, so the belief has remained within the camp and confidence will definitely be taken again when people look at the league table despite our cup disappointments.
