Burnett In Boxing Day Disappointment

Manager Wayne Burnett has said he did end the game disappointed at Dagenham's performance against Portsmouth, especially the way we conceded what proved to be the winner.

Despite having the lions share of the possession over the course of 90 minutes, we only mustered one shot on target and never really were incisive enough to take a share of the spoils from the game and the manager told the Official Site that he knows it wasn't good enough but more importantly that we do have better standards than that, so he expecting to see a response in the Chesterfield match especially now that we stand at three defeats on the bounce.

'We found it hard to get going, they pushed us very well. We didn't get going until the second half and we just couldn't find a way through. I certainly felt that we had enough to give them a game and get a result and I'm disappointed in the manner we conceded as well.'

The gaffer goes on to say that his disappointment with the goal, and he agrees in some ways that we were unfortunate given it came from a set piece and hit a few bodies on the way through, but he feels we really should've got the ball clear and dealt with the situation better.

Worse still was the way towards the end of the half we surrendered possession and basically invited them onto us, so he feels the team were a bit naive and we need to work on game management more.

The difficulty for Burnett in terms of trying to bring this run of defeats to an end is that he feels Chesterfield are the best side in the division so he knows it's going to be a very tough ask to see a return of all three points because nobody will be expecting us to get the win, especially given that we aren't playing as fluidly or as well as we were earlier in the season.

If we aren't better with and without the ball in the game though, he knows he'll be talking about four defeats on the bounce next.
