Cheltenham Win Ends An Overall Good Season
Manager Wayne Burnett has said that the 3-2 victory over Cheltenham yesterday was the perfect way to end what he feels has been a good season overall for Dagenham and Redbridge.
Having struggled last season and entered this season as one of the favourites for the drop again, we have finished in 9th place in the league and yesterday came from behind twice to take another three points this season.
Speaking to the press following the game, the gaffer said.
'I'm led to believe that we finished ninth which is a fantastic achievement for this football club, finishing above teams like Plymouth and Portsmouth. These players never cease to amaze me and have surpassed all my expectations.'
The disappointing thing is with a slightly better home form and not having wobbled as we did, the play offs were a possible pipe dream at one stage so the season could've finished a lot better than it did, but there's no doubting it's been a season of improvement.
'The remit was to stay in the league and we have done that. We were odds on favourite to go down and probably will be next season as well.'
The gaffer was also delighted to have got three youth team players on the pitch as well during the match, because he knows they are the future and the foundations of the club so to have given them that experience, they should benefit from it next term and moving forward and of course, with money tight, developing our own talent is key and something he'll be looking to do again next term.
